Sex and the City Production Stills

The highly anticipated Sex and the City movie comes to theaters on May 30, 2008 and we’re finally seeing some production stills!

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis all return for this follow-up to the now defunct show and they are joined by Chris Noth and Jennifer Hudson.  I have to admit that I did not watch the show (please contain your shock and horror) so I’m not all that interested but I’ll probably catch up by reading online recaps and see it anyway.  I’ve gotta know what the fuss is all about.

Tom Cruise Extortionist Gets Probation

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were married in 2006 and a computer technician threatened to release photos of their private ceremonies unless he received $1.3 million from Tom Cruise.  He came into possession of the pictures when a photographer brought a damaged computer hard drive in to him to be repaired.  Not only did he not get his money, Marc Lewis Gittleman, 34, was sentenced to two years probation and was fined $3,000 after pleading guilty in September to a charge of transporting stolen property.  He had no prior criminal record and appeared remorseful. He said (in court) "I brought unimaginable shame upon myself and my family. I’ll be working the rest of my life to make it right."   He has also sent a letter of apology to Cruise.

Court documents show that Gittleman kept more than 7,000 copies of the photos of Cruise’s wedding in Italy.  To add insult to injury, he contacted the "Sultan of Sleaze" (a named earned for peddling celebrity porn), David Hans Schmidt, who was arrested last July and accused of demanding $1.3 million from Cruise to keep the photos private.  Two weeks before he was scheduled to appear in court, Schmidt committed suicide at his Arizona home in September.

"Mad Money" Premiere Photos

"Mad Money" premiered at the Mann Village Theater last night in Westwood, California.  Stars, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes (along with husband, Tom Cruise) and Diane Keaton look amazing in this photographs!

From the previews, it looks like a funny, light, great-for-winter type of movie.  I may go see it sometime in the near future.  It hits theaters on January 18, 2008.

Movie Review: Zodiac

Movie: "Zodiac" Film Gecko Rating:
Rating: R Running time: 158 min.
Theatrical Release Date: March 2, 2007 Cumulative Box Office: $33,048,353

Zodiac (2007) is a crime/drama/thriller based on Robert Graysmith’s books about the real-life serial killer, known as Zodiac, who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s.

First of all, I have to give major recognition to Robert Downey Jr.  I have loved him for years and I have been in his corner through his decidedly bad times and I am thrilled that he is on his way to reclaiming the career he should have always had.  He was brilliant in this movie and I have high hopes for Iron Man (even though I realize that the depth of that movie is different from the one I’m currently reviewing).

Okay, back to my review.

More after the jump.  Warning, spoilers ahead!

Film Preview: Prince Caspian

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian will be released by Disney Studios on May 16, 2008.  The highly anticipated follow-up to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) is already getting a lot of attention.  I have to be honest - I wasn’t a fan of the first movie and felt that the book was really watered down to please audiences.  Also, it’s rich in Christian allegory yet last year’s The Golden Compass was targeted as being anti-Christian.

Still, I will have to give Prince Caspian a chance because I am such a fan of the books and the television adaptations from my childhood.

In this installment, the four Pevensie siblings return to Narnia, where they are enlisted to once again help ward off an evil king and restore the rightful heir to the land’s throne, Prince Caspian.

Film Preview: Speed Racer

"Go Speed Racer, Go!"  "Speed Racer" is coming to theaters on May 9, 2008 and I am hoping it can be some real family fun.  My brother and I used to love watching the "Speed Racer" cartoon together as kids and now they are making a live-action version!

Forget "Sailor Moon," this was the original anime classic and it’s coming from the Wachowski Brothers ("The Matrix").  It’s about a boy who’s born to race cars - "Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer, whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill."  It goes into this whole complicated storyline on Coming Soon (click here to read) but who cares?  I’m not going to see "Speed Racer" for the storyline, I’m going because it’s "Speed Racer!"  By the way, does that poster remind you of this pic from "Herbie: Fully Loaded?"

The cast is decent - Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, Hiroyuki Sanada and Richard Roundtree.  The trailer has all the requirements for this type of movie - an over-the-top movie set, exaggerated cartoonish looking people and, well, race car driving!!!

Be Kind, Rewind - Trailer and Stills

"Be Kind, Rewind" looks really good to me.  It stars Jack Black and Mos Def as two guys who work at a video store and, after Jack Black’s character (who is magnetized for some reason) accidentally erases all of the movies, the two "remake" all of the films in a low-budget, shortened, indie flick type of way.  Surprisingly, people start to like it and before long they’re stars!

This totally sounds like something I would do!  Doesn’t it sound like fun?

"27 Dresses" Premiere Red Carpet Photos

Katherine Heigl looked radiant on the red carpet at the premiere of her new movie, "27 Dresses."  The Grey’s Anatomy star has plenty to be happy about - she was in last summer’s surprise hit "Knocked Up" and she got married to Josh Kelley just before Christmas.  Hopefully, the trend will extend and 2008 will be just as good, if not better, for her.

I haven’t been able to find any critic reviews for the movie yet, but I can tell you what it’s about (from IMDb): "After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman (Heigl) wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister’s side as her sibling marries the man she’s secretly in love with (James Marsden)."

This sounds like an interesting twist on a familiar plot.  It premieres on January 18, 2007.  Here’s a trailer:
